How to Trade on fomo: A Complete Beginner's Guide
Table of Contents
This is the guide for someone who has never bought crypto before and doesn't want to feel stupid figuring it out. No jargon you haven't already been told the meaning of, and every step includes what to actually look at on the screen.
The whole process takes about 15 minutes the first time. The one thing worth doing slowly is checking the fee on your first order before you confirm it — that's the step most guides skip, and it's the one that saves you money.
Download the app and sign up
Get fomo from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) — search "fomo" and confirm the developer is FOMO Labs Inc. Open the app and sign up with an email address or a social login (Apple or Google). You don't need to enter any crypto information at this stage.
Let fomo set up your wallet
When your account is created, fomo automatically generates a wallet for you behind the scenes. This is a non-custodial wallet, meaning fomo doesn't hold your funds the way a bank holds your money — the wallet belongs to you, secured through the login you just created rather than a written-down seed phrase. You can export the private key later if you ever want to move funds to a different wallet app; we cover exactly how that works, and what to know before you do it, in our security guide.
Add money to your account
Tap to deposit and choose Apple Pay, a debit card, or — if you already have crypto elsewhere — a transfer in USDC. Card and Apple Pay purchases are the fastest way to get started if this is your first time buying crypto at all.
Find a token and check the fee before you buy
Search for a specific token or browse what's trending in the feed. Before you confirm any trade, look at the fee shown on the order screen. On Solana, orders under 200 USDC carry a $0.95 minimum fee no matter how small the trade — so a $10 buy actually costs you 9.5% right off the top. This is the single most important thing to understand before you trade on fomo, and we break down the full fee schedule on our fees page.
Place your trade
Confirm the order. Your new position, along with the price you paid and the fee, will show up in your activity and in your holdings. From here you can watch the price, sell, or just keep browsing the feed to see what other traders on the app are doing.

The one habit that will save you money
Check the fee line on every single order before you tap confirm, especially on small trades. fomo's minimum fee on Solana orders under 200 USDC is $0.95 flat — that doesn't change whether you're buying $5 or $150 worth of a token. If you're testing the app with small amounts, you'll notice the percentage cost is much higher than the 0.50% headline number suggests. See fomo Fees Explained for the full breakdown with every scenario worked out.
Trading is not the same as investing
The social feed makes it easy to buy something because you saw someone else buying it. That's a real risk specific to how fomo is designed, not a hypothetical one — a frictionless buy button and a feed of other people's trades are a combination built to make buying feel easy, which is different from making it a good idea. Take the extra ten seconds to look at what you're actually buying.
Setting up perps (optional, and not for everyone)
fomo also offers perpetual futures — leveraged trading — powered by outside venues, primarily Hyperliquid. This is a materially different and riskier product than spot trading, it carries its own fee on top of the venue's own fee, and it is not available to US Persons. If you're new to trading, we'd suggest getting comfortable with regular spot trades first. When you're ready, our trading features guide explains exactly how fomo's perps work and what they actually cost.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. You can fund your account directly with Apple Pay or a debit card and buy your first token from there.
fomo's wallet is non-custodial with the private key split into shares rather than stored as a single seed phrase, and account recovery works through your login (email or social account), not a written-down phrase. See our security guide for how key export works if you ever want to move funds to another wallet.
fomo doesn't publish a fixed minimum trade size, but because of the $0.95 minimum fee on small Solana orders, trading under about $20-30 at a time means the fee eats a large percentage of your money. See our fees guide for the exact math.
Spot trading is available to US users. Perpetual futures are not available to US Persons, per fomo's own terms of service.
