Is fomo Safe to Use?

The custody model is genuinely good while your funds stay in the app. The things that will actually cost you money are an unencrypted key export, and a fake fomo site that looks close enough to the real one.

Non-Custodial, via Privy

fomo's help center describes the custody model directly: your private key is split into multiple shares and distributed so that no single party, including fomo, holds enough to reconstruct it. This is done through Privy, a wallet infrastructure provider acquired by Stripe in 2025. Login is a Google or Apple ID plus FaceID, not a seed phrase.

What changes the moment you export that key is worth reading exactly as fomo's own Terms of Service state it: “The keys will be transmitted to you unencrypted by Privy, a third-party service provider… YOU ACKNOWLEDGE AND ACCEPT THE RISK OF TRANSACTING UNENCRYPTED DIGITAL WALLET KEYS OVER THE INTERNET.” Both things are true at once: genuinely protected at rest, and entirely your responsibility the moment it leaves the app. The full breakdown is in Is fomo Safe? fomo's Security Track Record

No publicly reported hack, exploit, or data breach involving fomo itself as of this writing, and no public bug bounty program listed. Worth stating as a positive, but read it as “no reports found” rather than a guarantee -- the app is relatively new, with a userbase sourced heavily from TikTok and YouTube rather than crypto-native communities more likely to post about problems in the places researchers look.

Real Fake fomo Sites

This matters more day-to-day than anything about fomo's own infrastructure. A documented wallet-drainer phishing site closely imitated fomo's real design, luring victims with a fake “airdrop or pre-sale event” before draining any wallet that connected -- that specific site is now dead, but the pattern is worth recognizing on sight. A separate, live impersonation site clones fomo's branding, including hotlinking fomo's own images, and runs a fake token with a fake “listing vote” -- two things fomo has never actually launched.

Before you connect a wallet anywhere claiming to be fomo

Check the domain is exactly fomo.family. Be suspicious of any site offering to “check eligibility” for a token or airdrop -- fomo doesn't have one. fomo will never DM you asking to move funds or offering an “escrow” arrangement for a trade.
