Getting money into fomo is the easy part — that's the whole point of the app. Getting the details right on deposits, and understanding what "your wallet" actually means, is worth five minutes before you move real money.

> **Key takeaway:** fomo's wallet is non-custodial, which means the funds are legally and technically yours, not fomo's — but fomo still generates and manages the wallet for you day-to-day. That's a middle ground worth understanding, not a technicality.

## What "non-custodial" actually means here

fomo doesn't hold your funds the way a bank or a traditional exchange does. Your wallet's private key is generated through a third-party provider called **Privy**, and — per fomo's own help center — the key is split into multiple shares and distributed so that no single party, including fomo, holds enough of it to reconstruct your wallet on their own.

That's the reassuring half. The other half, from fomo's own terms of service, is worth reading in full before you export anything:

> **Warning:** fomo's terms state that once you export your wallet's private key, "the keys will be transmitted to you unencrypted by Privy, a third-party service provider," and that fomo is "not responsible for the security or safety of your digital assets" from that point. In plain terms: while your key sits split across shares inside the app, it's protected. The moment you export it — to move funds to another wallet, for example — you become responsible for keeping that key safe, and it travels to you unencrypted.

This isn't unusual for the category, but it's worth knowing before you assume "non-custodial" means "nothing can go wrong." See our full [security guide](/security) for what this means in practice and how to export safely if you need to.

## Withdrawing from fomo

You can withdraw crypto to any external wallet address that supports the same network your funds are on. Before confirming a withdrawal:

- **Double-check the destination address.** Crypto transfers can't be reversed if you send to the wrong address.
- **Confirm the network matches.** A Solana address and a Base address look different but it's easy to paste the wrong one if you're managing multiple wallets.
- **Know the fee.** Ethereum withdrawals carry network gas; Solana, Base, BNB Chain and Monad withdrawals are generally covered per fomo's fee structure, though this can change — check the fee shown on the withdrawal screen itself before confirming.
